Feldenkrais One-to-One Classes

What happens in a Feldenkrais One-to-One Class?

The lessons are designed to enable you to find new ways to organise your whole system and better ways to move with less pain, more comfort and greater ease and skill. We work to find clearer support through the skeleton with less reliance on chronic muscular tension.

In a similar way to a group class, one-to-one classes use movement and awareness to explore how we organise ourselves, our movement patterns and habits. The difference being that rather than being given verbal directions, these explorations are mostly led through gentle touch and guided movements. One-to-one lessons are also known as Functional Integration (or FI.)

Each of us has a different history with different challenges and abilities and FI lessons are tailored to the individual and their particular needs and goals. Strain and pain do not create a good environment for learning so in the Feldenkrais method we are always looking for each individual to work within a range that is comfortable for them. There is no imposing of some “ideal” way of doing things.

Lessons are often done lying on a padded table but also in other positions such as seated or standing.

What should I wear to class?

Please wear comfortable, loose, everyday clothing that doesn’t restrict your movement.

You may want extra layers that you can add or remove if you get too cold or warm.

It is best to do classes in socks.
